Bike to Work - Training for Groups

Help encourage and support biking to work with our fun on-site workshops designed to engage staff of all riding abilities!  All VACC instructors are Nationally Certified Bike Safety Instructors ("Can-Bike 2"), which is the highest level of certification in Canada.  The VACC is also fully insured and we are proud of our no-accident track record in all our workshops, courses and lessons.  For more information or to book a workshop for your company, call 604-558-2002 or email karen@vacc.bc.ca.

Biking to Work: A Lunch-Hour Primer (1 hour)

This fun and interactive workshop covers everything you need to know about biking to work in 1 hour!  It provides tips and guidance for newer riders as well as useful info for those who already bike to work.  Certified bike-safety instructors will discuss bike safety scenarios, taking bikes on transit, route planning, what to wear/carry, making your workplace bike-friendly, and much more!  Bike maps and other resources will be provided to all participants. close

This intermediate-level workshop is a great way to encourage those who ride in warmer weather to try biking to work in the Fall. Participants will learn more advanced tips and tricks about biking to work in Metro Vancouver’s winter riding conditions, including dressing for the weather (staying warm and dry), more advanced cycling safety, advanced use of your gears, cold-weather care for your bike, lights and visibility, and more! Bike maps and other resources are provided to all participants. close

Demystifying Your Bike: the Basics of Bike Maintenance (1-2 hours)
Cost: $350-$425 per group (up to 15 participants) (10% discount for corporate members) more »

Take the mystery out of your bicycle with this interactive and engaging workshop! Participants bring their bikes and we show them how to do a basic inspection to make sure it’s in good running order. They learn how to clean and oil their bike, check their brakes and gears, and a few other tricks to make their riding experience more enjoyable. We cover fixing the dreaded flat tire (not really such a big deal after all!), and help participants decide when it's a good idea to take their bike to the shop. Available in both 1 and 2 hour versions. Note that the 1-hour version doesn't include fixing a flat tire.  close

Biking to Work: The Basics of Streetwise Commuting (2 hours)

In addition to topics covered in the Lunch Hour Primer, this 2-hour workshop provides a look at the bicycle itself, and goes into further depth on safety scenarios. Nationally-certified bike safety instructors cover the rules of the road for cyclists, and focus on establishing the awareness and knowledge necessary to ride a bicycle safely and confidently in the urban environment. Streetwise Commuter Skills (2 hours)

This workshop includes both in-class and on-road training, and is for workplaces that want to go a step further to support their employees to use their bike for transportation. Taught by nationally-certified bike safety instructors, participants learn about the safest place on the road to ride, how to maneuver their bike effectively, communicate with other road users, handle riding at night and in the rain, and much more. Participants will gain the skills and confidence to enjoy riding in the city! close
